ORU Welcomes Islanders to Mabee Center

Oral Roberts (12-11, 9-4 Southland Conference) hammered SLC-leading Sam Houston State on Thursday night, 90-40. The Golden Eagles held SHSU to a 19.6% field goal percentage, a school record for lowest field goal percentage allowed in a single game.
With the win, ORU is just a half-game behind SHSU and Lamar for the top spot in the SLC standings. Both the Bearkats and the Cardinals are 9-3 in league play.
Five Golden Eagles scored in double-figures in the win, led by Jaci Bigham with 17 points. Bigham entered ORU’s career top-10 in points scored midway through the second half and is now tied for 9th in the ORU charts, at 1,417 points.
Taylor Cooper added 16 points in the win, while Christian Key had 15 points, Kevi Luper added 13 and Savanna Buck chipped in 11.
Luper now has 2,694 career points, 24th on the NCAA Division I career scoring list.
Bigham now ranks 8th in NCAA Division I with 6.8 assists per game this season, and she leads the Southland Conference in the category.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi occupies the 10th spot in the Southland Conference standings, at 3-20 (2-10 SLC). The Islanders did score their biggest victory of the season on Thursday night, a 60-58 overtime win at Central Arkansas.
Ashley Darley and Taryn Gregory led the Islanders with 12 points each in the win over UCA, while Janae Blount added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Despite only starting 11 of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s 23 games, Blount leads the Islanders with 8.1 points per game. Jessica Jammer posts a team-high 5.2 rebounds per game.
AMCC has won two straight games, including a 60-59 win over McNeese State on February 9. Prior to that, the Islanders had lost 11 straight games.
Islander Head Coach Royce Chadwick is in his first season in Corpus Christi but has a 564-322 record in 28 seasons overall.
ORU's Misti Cussen is 12-11 in her first season.
Oral Roberts is 2-1 all-time against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, with a 1-0 record at the Mabee Center and a 1-1 record in Corpus Christi.
ORU trailed by one point at the half but rallied to beat the Islanders, 58-41, on January 17 in Corpus Christi. Key led ORU with 21 points, while Sarah Shelton added 11 points and seven rebounds. Imani Dunn entered the game with only three total points on the season but led AMCC with 13 points in the game.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s last trip to the Mabee Center was a 74-61 ORU win on December 7, 2000.
The Golden Eagles play their final home game of the season on Tuesday, February 19, when they host Central Arkansas. The game is the final scheduled home contest in the careers of Bigham, Buck and Luper, and tip time is scheduled for 5 pm CT.
