ORU Opens Final Stretch at McNeese State

ORU (14-11, 11-4 Southland Conference) enters the McNeese fixture on a four-game winning streak after dispatching of Central Arkansas, 76-69, on February 19. The victory marked the final Mabee Center appearance for seniors Jaci Bigham, Kevi Luper and Savanna Buck. The trio accounted for 52 of the team’s 76 points in the victory.
Luper led all scorers with 33 points, a personal high against Southland Conference competition. The three-time Summit League Player of the Year chipped in four steals, giving her 443 steals for her career.
Bigham tallied 12 points, eight assists and four steals. The McAlester product tallied her 174th assist of the season in the victory, matching her personal high for assists in a season.
Christian Key was 3-for-5 from three-point range and led ORU’s underclassmen against UCA, with 11 points.
The win bumped ORU to 11-4 in Southland Conference play, still a half-game ahead of Sam Houston State and Lamar for the league lead.
McNeese State has won two straight games and enters their matchup at 14-11, with a 9-5 Southland Conference record.
The Cowgirls last played on February 19, when they earned a 75-67 victory over Southeastern Louisiana. Senior Caitlyn Baggett scored a team-high 24 points and set the McNeese State’s career assist record in the triumph.
Sister Ashlyn Baggett scored 14 points in McNeese’s victory over the Lady Lions and leads the team with 18.2 points per game through 25 contests.
McNeese Head Coach Brooks Donald Williams is 97-85 in her 6th season leading the Cowgirl program.
ORU's Misti Cussen is 14-11 in her first season leading the Golden Eagles.
Oral Roberts is 1-3 all-time against McNeese State but has never faced the Cowgirls on the road in Lake Charles.
The Cowgirls stunned ORU, 72-71, on January 26 at the Mabee Center. McNeese’s Arianna James hit a second-chance buzzer-beater to hand ORU their only home loss of the Southland Conference season.
Bigham and Taylor Cooper scored 20 points each to lead the Golden Eagles on January 16, while Sarah Shelton added 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Cowgirls were led by Caitlyn Baggett, with 15 points.
The Golden Eagles continue their road swing on Saturday, March 2 when they take on Lamar. Game time in Beaumont, Texas is scheduled for 4 pm CT.
