Golden Eagles fall to No. 14 Oklahoma, 3-1
TULSA, Okla. – After scoring eight runs in a pair of losses at Oklahoma last week, the Oral Roberts baseball squad was three hit on Tuesday night in a home loss to the No. 14 Sooners, 3-1.
Nate Goro started the bottom of the first with an infield single, beating out a throw from the shortstop. Logan Domenico stepped in with his eighth hit of the season off the Sooner staff, scoring Goro from second, after advancing into scoring position on a groundout.
Kevin Cho had the third hit of the evening in the bottom of the third, ripping a shot back up the middle for a single.
The Sooners got on the board in the top of that inning when Jack Mayfield singled and scored on a double off the bat of Max White.
In the fourth, Oklahoma added two runs on just a single as they were walked twice and were hit by a pitch. Both runs of the inning came on bases loaded walks.
Despite the struggles on the mound in the inning, there was a bright spot in the field as Mayfield hit a ball that looked like it would hit off the top of the wall, but Domenico made a leaping catch to send Mayfield back to the dugout, saving a couple of runs.
OU’s Matt Oberste tied the school record with a 27-game hitting streak, reaching safely twice, and White had a pair of hits for the Sooners. White had two RBI’s and Oberste added the third.
Gavin Glanz got the start for the Golden Eagles, going 3.2 innings with four strikeouts. All three runs were credited to Glanz as he fell to 1-2 on the season. Freshman Ralph Garza went the full nine for the Sooners with a career high 11 strikeouts.
The Golden Eagles (8-16, 3-0) hit the road this weekend for a three game set at conference foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Game one of the series is set for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
