ORU Dropped by Lamar in SLC Finale, 6-1
The Golden Eagles got off to a great start, winning two of three pairs matches to secure the doubles point for the first time this season against an NCAA Division I opponent. Fabian Zierleyn and Jason Mechali won the top flight match, 8-6, over Rob Lee and Steven McMullan, while Braxton Bates and Gabriel Kanelopoulos clipped Trey Crysel and Carl-Philip Lindqvist in the third flight, 8-5. Lamar’s only doubles win came on court two, where Mikko Rajamaki and Bruno Snyder knocked off Parker Allen and Nathaniel Avery, 8-2.
Unfortunately for ORU, the Cardinals (3-14, 1-1 SLC) won all six singles matches. Lee was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Zierleyn on the top court, while Lindqvist bested Mechali on court two, 6-2, 6-4. Snyder rallied to beat Allen on court three, 2-6, 6-3, 10-8, and McMullan handled Avery in the fourth flight, 6-1, 6-1. The fifth court belonged to Rajaminski, 6-0, 6-2, over Bates, while Crysel ended the day with a 7-5, 6-3 sixth flight triumph over Kanelopoulos.
