TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts University baseball fans have just three more opportunities to see the Golden Eagles play at home as ORU is set to host McNeese State in a three-game Southland Conference series.
Game one is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, game two is at 2 p.m. on Saturday and game three at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
ORU (20-26, 13-8 SLC) enters the weekend riding a six-game winning streak, including a conference sweep at Lamar last weekend and two wins during mid-week play at Missouri State. The Cowboys (20-26, 7-14 SLC) are sliding the opposite direction as they have lost 17-of-20 games since the beginning of April.
Heading into the second to last weekend of the conference schedule, the Golden Eagles currently sit in a tie for second with Southeastern Louisiana and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, while the Cowboys hold the eighth and are trying to hang on to the final conference tournament spot.
Alex Gonzalez looks to continue to move up the ORU career strikeouts list, needing just three more to pass Jerry Sullivan for fifth at 269. Gonzalez is currently fifth in the nation with 101 strikeouts and is second in the Southland with a 1.89 ERA.
Golden Eagle pitchers will have the task of facing three McNeese batters with plus-.300 averages, including Andrew Guillotte with a .304 mark, while Jackson Gooch and Michael Sullivan are each hitting .301.
The Cowboys currently hold the all-time series lead over ORU, 3-1. The lone Golden Eagle victory came in 2003 at a tournament hosted by McNeese.
