TULSA, Okla. – There were several memorable wins during the 2012-13 Oral Roberts University women’s basketball season, including the very first game of the season as ORU topped Tulsa 64-53 on November 9, 2012, to claim the PSO Mayor’s Cup, giving Coach Misti Cussen her first win as a head coach.
Cussen took over the ORU women’s basketball program after 16 years as an assistant coach for the Golden Eagles and helped ORU snap a two-game losing streak to the cross-town rivals.
A staunch defensive effort proved the difference under Cussen, as ORU forced Tulsa into 23 turnovers and held the Golden Hurricane to a 33.9 percent shooting effort.
Kevi Luper had 23 points while Taylor Cooper had five 3-pointers and 19 points in her collegiate debut.
Trailing midway through the first half, ORU scored eight of the final 10 points of the half, then put together a 12-2 run in the second half to take the victory at the Mabee Center.
