TULSA, Okla. – After being an alternate for Team USA in the 2012 London Olympic Games, Jack Whitt has earned his spot on the national team and will represent the Red, White and Blue at the World Championships in Moscow in August.

Whitt, who just finished his senior year at ORU, did not make it easy on himself after clearing the opening height (17-6.5, 5.35m) on his first attempt. It came down to his third and final attempt on each of the next two heights before the bar went up to 18-4.25 (5.60m). Whitt hit the mark on his first vault at that height, which proved to be the winning effort as Jefrey Coover and Dustin DeLeo, each of whom were competing unattached, missed on their first attempt. Although both eventually cleared the bar at 18-4.25, it was Whitt who took third in the event based on misses. Nike athletes Brad Walker and Jeremy Scott will join Whitt on Team USA.

Madison Reynolds, who is also in Des Moines to compete in the US Junior National Championships, advanced to the finals of the 400m dash. Reynolds ran 54.21 to finish second in her heat, but advanced to Saturday's finals. The finals brought out the best in Reynolds, who just finished her freshman season at ORU, as she ran a personal-best 53.34 to move up to sixth overall.

Jeffery Gibson, who hit the world championship “A” standard in a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships, won the 400m hurdles at the Bahamas National Championship, punching his ticket to Moscow as well. Gibson ran 51.05 in the championships, but was not even tested, winning by more than four seconds.

Former Golden Eagle and Olympic silver medalist Andretti Bain ran 47.25 to finish third in his heat and qualified for the finals in the event on Saturday. A top three finish would send Bain to the World Championships as well.
