TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts University women’s soccer team takes the pitch for the first time in 2013 on Saturday as the Golden Eagles face Oklahoma State in exhibition action at the Case Soccer Complex. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

It will be the first match for ORU Head Coach Roger Bush. Bush took over the program in May when his brother, Ryan, was named the head coach for the ORU men’s soccer program.

ORU, 12-7-2 last season, has high expectations entering the season after falling just short in the Southland Conference Tournament semifinals last season against eventual tournament champion Stephen F. Austin. After starting the season 10-2, the Cowgirls struggled during Big 12 play, finishing 11-6-3 overall in 2012.

Jennifer Abernathy and Megan Giles will lead the charge for the Golden Eagles as each were named to the Preseason All-Southland Conference First Team, while Helen Erb, Kayla Keller and Lexie Salas each received preseason recognition on the second team. ORU has been picked to finish third in the conference.

After losing their leading scorer from last season, midfielder’s Kristen Kelley and Madison Mercado look to pick up the slack for the Cowgirls. Kelley finished the season with three goals and an assist, helping her to be recognized as a Preseason All-Big 12 member. Mercado finished second on the team in points, putting in four goals and adding a pair of assists.

The Cowgirls hold a 10-2 overall record against the Golden Eagles in regular season play. In 2011, ORU travel to Stillwater and lost in a 1-0 battle to the then No. 5 team in the nation.
