FRISCO, Texas – Sophomore Jonathan Harper has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Harper led the Golden Eagles in the second race of the season, running a career-best 19:21.70 on the 6k course. His time put him third overall, beating the top two runners from Kansas State. The third place finish was his third consecutive top-10 finish and the highest placement of his career.
Chloe Susset of Abilene Christian took home the Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors, while ORU freshman Abby Hoover placed 16th over the weekend and earned honorable mention honors.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
