Men Take Fifth, Women 10th at Texas Tech Open

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Oral Roberts University cross country teams mixed things up from their normal Saturday morning competitions as they competed in the Texas Tech Open on Friday night.

The women’s team finished 10th overall with 243 points, and were taken down 19-42 by Texas Tech in duel scoring, while the men finished 5h overall (181) and were beaten 17-46 by the Red Raiders. Texas Tech won both the men’s and women’s races with 37 points.

The men faced an 8k course for the first time this season and it was Jonathan Harper who led the crew for the second week in a row. The defending Southland Conference Runner of the Week finished in 27:06.04 to claim 12th place overall. David Batchelder ran 27:52.25 for 33rd, and Leif Peterson was nearly a minute behind at 28:51.28 to claim 53rd. Ryan Masey (29:21.59) and Joshua Lee (29:29.25) finished 63rd and 68th, respectively. In his first collegiate race, Cameron Peterson ran 29:50.56 to finish 75th, while John Bradford’s time of 32:09.94 put him in 101st place.

Samantha Watson led the women with a third place finish (19:11.44), marking her second top-5 finish of the season. Abby Hoover ran 20:49.69 to claim 19th, and Megan Denzin’s time of 23:46.81 put her in 82nd overall. Cat Klarich (25:37.69) ran her best time of the year to finish 103rd, while Grace Fuentes ran 30:44.22 to finish 119th. Olivia Terry competed in her first race of the year and ran 35:05.06 to finish 122nd.

After three consecutive weeks of competition, the Golden Eagles will have a week to recover as they prepare for the OSU Cowboy Jamboree on September 28.
