TULSA, Okla. – Sophomore defender Kaily Cox became the first Oral Roberts University women’s soccer player to receive 2013 conference honors as she was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, league offices announced on Tuesday.
Cox anchored the ORU backline in the first weekend of SLC play as the Golden Eagles held Stephen F. Austin to just two shots on goal in a 2-1 overtime victory. ORU followed that performance with a 3-0 shutout at Lamar the next day. A native of Jenks, Okla., Cox played in all 186 minutes of action in the pair of victories.
The Golden Eagles’ record improved to 7-2 on the season to set the best nine-match start in school history.
ORU returns home on Sunday as they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Case Soccer Complex. Kickoff against the Islanders is set for 1 p.m.
