SAN ANTONIO, Texas – For the first time in six matches, the Oral Roberts University women’s soccer team was held scoreless as they fell to Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday, 1-0.

ORU dropped its first Southland Conference match of the season as the Golden Eagles moved their record to 3-1 in league play and 8-3 overall. UIW improved to 8-3 overall and 2-2 in SLC action with the victory.

The loss snapped a four-match winning streak by the Golden Eagles.

Katie Miller netted the lone goal of the match in the 72nd minute as she collected a loose ball in the box, placing it in the back of the net from 15 yards out. It was Miller’s seventh goal of the season.

The Golden Eagles entered the match with a top ten offense in the country. However, they struggled with opportunities as they were only able to place four shots on target. Jennifer Abernathy led the Golden Eagles with two shots on goal, while Mary-Kate Halsmer and Hannah Briggs each had one on goal.

Maddie Rhodes took the loss as she recorded three saves. On the opposite end of the field, Heather Kowalik and Karly Brightwell each had two saves in the match, with Kowalik playing the first 45 minutes and Brightwell coming in to play the second half.

ORU looks to rebound on Sunday as they travel to face another conference newcomer, Abilene Christian. Sunday’s match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Abilene, Texas.
