ORU Battles at ITA Central Regional

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oral Roberts University women’s tennis team continued their fall campaign over the weekend as they competed at the ITA Central Regional Championship. Several Golden Eagles had solid weekends at the premier event of the fall season.

Marizanne Bouwer was victorious in her 1st round qualifying match, a 6-1, 6-4 win over Gaby Pintos of UMKC. Bouwer was upended in her 2nd round match, a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Oklahoma’s Emma Devine.

Mairead Cleary fell in her 1st round qualifying match, 6-1, 6-0, to Oklahoma State’s Karyn Guttormsen. Cleary lost her consolation match to UMKC’s Amelie Amsallem, 6-1, 6-1.

Melanie Marlin was beaten by Anastasija Trubica of Kansas in her 1st round qualifying match, 6-3, 6-0. In her consolation match, Marlin lost to Brooke Urzendowski of Saint Louis, 6-4, 6-3.

Haley Martin started in the main draw, where she lost her 1st round match to Tulsa’s Rongrong Leenabanchong, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles play, Marlin and Cleary were topped by Tulsa’s Yelena Nemchen and Marcelina Cichon, 8-1, while Martin and Bouwer lost to Tulsa’s Renata Kuricova and Saana Saarteinen, 8-2.

The Golden Eagles will next play at the Arkansas State Invitational, which begins on October 26 in Jonesboro, Ark.
