TULSA – The Oral Roberts’ women’s basketball team will make a preseason trip to Cozumel, Mexico August 30-September. 1 to compete in the Labor Day Weekend Basketball Tour.

The Golden Eagles will compete against Merida – a state-select team – on Saturday, August 30. Sunday’s games are to be determined with the possibility of playing the Mexican national team. The team will return to Tulsa on September 1.

ORU head women’s basketball coach Jerry Finkbeiner is looking forward to mixing the newcomers in with the returning players on this trip.

“This is a great chance for us to see our new kids and experiment with a game plan for the upcoming year,” Finkbeiner said.

“It’s also important because from the cultural aspect, it allows our players to get out and explore a new country, which some might not ever have the opportunity to do.

“I’m looking forward to working with this group because all of our experience is returning with the addition of the new girls,” Finkbeiner continued. “It’s a great way to start the year.

The team will practice for 10 days before leaving for Cozumel starting August 14, the first day of school at ORU.
