Women's Golf Eighth After Day One in Kansas
LAWRENCE, Kan.-Holding steady at 318 in the first two rounds, the Oral Roberts women's golf team finished the first day of competition in eighth place at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational, hosted by Kansas. The Jayhawks extended a 16-shot lead on day one with a two-round total of 601, while the Golden Eagles (636) sit just two shots back of North Dakota State and UALR, who tied for sixth at 634.
Junior Alheli Moreno, one of just two returners in the starting lineup for ORU, shot a 155 (76-79, +11) to tie for 11th overall, while freshman Shinwoo Lee finished one shot back of her teammate with a pair of 78's for a 156 (+12) to tie for 16th.
Fellow freshman Paola Aviles had the third best score of the day for ORU with a 162 after shooting 82-80 to finish +18 and tied for 37th. The third freshman in the lineup, Alejandra Acosta, shot 82-81 for a 163 (+19), tying for 43rd.
The lone senior on the roster, Tiffany Robbins, shot 86-84 (170, +26) to round out the starting five for ORU in a tie for 59th overall.
The third and final round from Alvamar Golf Course will start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
