TULSA, Okla. – For the second time this season, Oral Roberts University swept the Summit League’s men’s soccer weekly honors as Marco Hernandez was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Isaac Sandoval earned the Defensive Player of the Week award, the conference announced on Monday.
The duo played key roles in the Golden Eagles 2-0 conference victory over Western Illinois on Saturday. Following Saturday’s conference games, ORU and Denver are tied for first place.
Hernandez, a native of Claremore, Okla., had his hand in both ORU goals on Saturday. Six minutes into the match, Hernandez found Johnny Chavez in stride for the first goal of the match. Hernandez then gave ORU a 2-0 lead just three minutes later as he converted a header for his first goal of the season.
It was the first time in Hernandez’ career he has recorded three points in a match.
Sandoval, a sophomore keeper from Del Rio, Texas, stepped in between the posts and earned the second shutout of his career, making two saves in the victory over WIU. The win was the second of his career.
The Golden Eagles hit the road for a non-conference showdown with Missouri State on Tuesday, before traveling to Eastern Illinois on Saturday for their third conference match of the season.
