SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – For the second time this season, the Oral Roberts University men’s soccer team held the Missouri State Bears scoreless as the two squads battled to a scoreless draw on Tuesday evening in Springfield, Mo.
Both teams entered Tuesday’s match leading their respective conferences with ORU tied for first in the Summit League and MSU on top of the Missouri Valley. The draw moved the Golden Eagles to 4-5-2 on the season, while the Bears moved to 7-3-2.
ORU shutout MSU, 1-0, in the first showdown of the year on Sept. 25 at the Case Soccer Complex.
Isaac Sandoval (1-0-1) got his second straight start in goal for the Golden Eagles and recorded five saves, including one in the second overtime. His counterpart, Trevor Spangenberg, did not face a shot on goal.
Johnny Chavez took the lone ORU shot in the seventh minute of play that was blocked by a MSU defender.
The home team took 15 shots. Jack Wood and Jon Boyack led the Bears with two shots on goal, while Phil Woods added another.
The Golden Eagles hit the road later this week for their first conference road match of the season as they face Eastern Illinois at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
