TULSA—Oral Roberts and Centenary battled to a 1-1 draw in the Summit League opener for both teams, Saturday at ORU Soccer Complex.

The Golden Eagles (2-5-1, 0-0-1) opened the scoring when Sterling Copeland blasted in a shot from 25 yards out in the ninth minute.

Centenary (0-4-1, 0-0-1) tied the game in the 14th minute when Aaron Bergman stole a pass at midfield and fed a streaking Tate McIntyre who knocked a shot past ORU keeper Andrew Techanchuk, tying the game at 1-1.

Despite statistically dominating the match, ORU never scored again after Copeland’s early strike. ORU pounded Centenary keeper Rennie Walker with 33 shots (to just 13 for Centenary) including 11 on goal. But Walker made 10 saves to keep the Gents in the match.

Techanchuk finished with four saves for ORU.

The Golden Eagles next visit UMKC, 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 1.
