TULSA—Senior goalkeeper Andrew Techanchuk scored the game-tying goal with less than a minute to play in regulation to help Oral Roberts earn a hard-fought 2-2 tie in a key Summit League match with Oakland, Saturday at ORU Soccer Complex. The tie assures the Golden Eagles of a spot in next month’s Summit League Tournament.

With ORU (5-7-4 overall, 2-1-2 Summit) trailing 2-1, Techanchuk moved down the field and received a free kick from Vince Tizzone. Techanchuk headed the kick into the upper right corner from five yards out, tying the game with 42 seconds left in regulation.

The teams played through a pair of scoreless overtime periods as ORU gained the result it needed.

The Golden Eagles took an early 1-0 lead when Kalen Ryden scored off a corner kick by Jarrett Hamilton in the 18th minute. Hamilton’s kick was received by Jon Gann, who flicked the ball to Ryden for the score.

Oakland (4-93, 1-1-3) tied the game less than 10 minutes later as Andrew Barrett scored from 20 yards out in the 27th minute.

The Golden Grizzlies took a 2-1 lead on Miche’le Lipari’s goal in the 69th minute. Lipari was assisted by Winston Henderson.

The teams combined for 41 shots, with Oakland getting 22 to 19 for ORU. Techanchuk made seven saves while Oakland keeper Mitch Hildebrandt stopped five shots.

ORU closes out the 2010 regular season when they visit IPFW, Saturday, Nov. 6 in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
