TULSA, Okla.- Behind senior Max Touloute's goal and two assists, The Mastodons surge past the Golden Eagles on Friday night 3-1.
ORU (2-6-0) controlled possession for most of the game and finished the night with 24 shots, but managed just one late goal in the loss. Sid Stewart headed in his second goal of the season in the 86th minute. He now leads the team with five points. Freshman Nick Petolick got his seventh start of the season for the Golden Eagles, and he gave up three goals and had four saves. ORU falls to 1-1 in conference play.
IPFW (4-6-1) had only seven shots-on-goal the entire night, but they made them count. Senior midfielder Colin Helmrich struck first with a goal in the 18th minute, followed by Touloute's score in the 53rd minute, and a goal by senior midfielder Liridon Qafleshi in the 83rd minute to give IPFW a 3-0 lead. Touloute picked up both assists. IPFW improves to 1-0 in the conference standings.
The Golden Eagles will face Nebraska-Omaha on Sunday at 2 p.m.
