ORU's Match Called Due to Lightning; 1-1 tie
TULSA, Okla.- After a 45 minute delay because of inclement weather, the Golden Eagles home match against UMKC ended in a 1-1 tie after the head referee called the match in the 71st minute due to lightning.
Earlier in the evening during halftime, the new Case Soccer Complex was dedicated. Key donors, including Mike and Pat Case, were honored by President Mark Rutland and Athletic Director Mike Carter at midfield.
The Golden Eagles (4-9-1, 1-2-1 Summit League) were last in the Summit League standings before tonight, but had a chance to pull within a half game of first place in the conference with a win. ORU's lone goal was scored by junior Aaron Birk in the 11th minute. The assist was awarded to freshman Trevor Laffoon.
UMKC (5-7-2, 2-1-1 Summit League), who outshot ORU 13-4, tied the game in the 23rd minute when a shot by junior David Sarabia deflected off an ORU defender and landed at the feat of freshman Jordan Rideout who shot the ball past Nick Petolick for the goal.
Petolick played all 71 minutes and had four saves while giving up one goal. Keeper Kevin Corby contributed two saves for UMKC.
The Golden Eagles next match will be on the road against IUPUI on October 29.
