KANSAS CITY, Mo.-ORU could not overcome two goals by sophomore defender Charlie Bales, and the Golden Eagles fall to Western Illinois in the Summit League Championship game 2-1.

Western Illinois (13-6-1, 6-2-0 Summit League) fell behind early when Freshman Paul Oliver gave ORU the 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute, but a goal by Bales in the 40th minute tied the game at halftime.

The Golden Eagles (7-11-2, 4-3-1 Summit League) seemed to regain the momentum in the second half as they controlled possession, and had multiple opportunities to regain the lead with 10 corner kicks, but they could not break through with a goal and the game remained tied. Western Illinois capitalized on one of their few second half chances in the 77th minute, when Bales was awarded a penalty Kick off a foul called in the box. Bales scored easily off the free kick, and the Golden eagles were never able to recover.

Western Illinois won their second conference championship in three years, and ORU come up just short in their second consecutive championship game.

Freshman keeper Nick Petolick had three saves in 90 minutes, and senior Andy Ryan had four saves for WIU.
