TULSA, Okla. - A pair of early goals doomed the Oral Roberts men's soccer team on Saturday night as they fell to Summit League foe IUPUI at the Case Soccer Complex, 2-0
Once the contest got going, the Jaguars came out of the locker room on the attack. In the 10th minute of action, Clint Hoffar made a perfect cross into the box from 45 yards out on the left side of the pitch, setting up the opening goal off the head of Michael Sass.
Less than a minute later, the Jags struck again, this time it was Sass earning the assist as Emile Garcia finished the play with what would end up being the final goal.
Despite the two quick goals, the Golden Eagle defense played well in the match. After the first 45 minutes of play, IUPUI had just a one shot advantage over the Golden Eagles, as John David James and Johnny Chavez each had shots on goal.
Missed opportunities were the theme in the second stanza for the Golden Eagles, controlling the ball in their half of the field most of the half. The Golden Eagles had the shot advantage in the second period, taking 12 shots to the Jaguars four.
Ryan Grashik was credited with the loss between the posts for ORU, recording a save in the match.
The Golden Eagles will have a quick turnaround before returning to the pitch on Tuesday night at home as they host regional opponent Oklahoma Wesleyan. OKWU is 13-0-1 on the season and is currently ranked No. 8 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
