TULSA, Okla. – Senior Johnny Chavez was honored for his outstanding summer season on Tuesday morning as he was named to the All-National Premier Soccer League Team. Chavez scored five goals over the summer for the Tulsa Athletics, leading the expansion franchise to the NPSL South Central Conference title.
The NPSL is a 57-team league that provides summer competition for some of the top amateur soccer talent in the nation. Chavez was one of just 11 honorees on the All-NPSL Team, which was voted on by the media.
Chavez, a Tulsa native and Memorial High School graduate, was an integral part of the Tulsa Athletics’ attack this season, helping his squad to a 10-2. Chavez finished the season with five goals, including a four-game goal-scoring streak midway through the season.
“Johnny’s worked exceptionally hard this summer and has really matured as a player,” said Oral Roberts first-year head coach Ryan Bush. “We are expecting his leadership and experience to help an attack that struggled putting points on the board last year.”
“We are expecting Johnny to have a break out year.”
Chavez and the Golden Eagles open their 2013 campaign on August 18, when they travel to Dallas to face SMU in exhibition action. The 2013 Golden Eagle squad will begin its home schedule in an exhibition match against John Brown on Aug. 20 at 6 p.m.
