TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts University men’s soccer team looks to continue its recent momentum as they are set to host Fort Wayne in the Summit League opener on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Case Soccer Complex.
ORU (2-4-1) enters the contest riding a three-match unbeaten streak, following a 0-4 start to the season. On Wednesday, the Golden Eagles knocked off Missouri State 1-0 at home, getting a goal off the foot of Edgardo Mira in the 57th minute, with an assist from Johnny Chavez.
Mira leads the Golden Eagles with two goals.
Ben LaCourse earned his second shutout of the season in the victory as he recorded four saves to bring his season total to 32. LaCourse enters the first weekend of conference action leading the league in save percentage (.780), goals against (9), goals against average (1.21) and is tied for third in saves.
Fort Wayne enters league play without a win, sitting at a 0-7-1 overall mark. Most recently, the Mastodons dropped a pair of matches in the UIC Soccer Classic in Chicago, as they were outscored by No. 25 Wisconsin and UIC, 9-1. IPFW’s lone goal of the tournament came in the 5-1 loss to Wisconsin as freshman Drake Bowers put the ball in the back of the net in the 82nd minute.
Freshmen classmates Oscar Uyamadu and Jacob Murphy lead the Mastodons with two goals each, while sophomore Corey Tom has picked up a pair of assists. Between the posts, redshirt freshman Raphael Kotzock is just ahead of ORU’s LaCourse in saves with 33.
