TULSA, Okla. – With just three conference matches remaining on the schedule, the Oral Roberts University men’s soccer team is currently in the midst of a hotly contested battle for one of the four bids into the Summit League Championships.

The push for the tournament continues on Saturday afternoon as ORU (4-6-3, 2-1-0) travels to face Omaha (3-8-1, 1-2-0) at 4 p.m. Following a slow start to the season, the Golden Eagles have only lost two of the previous nine matches, while the Mavericks have dropped three of the four.

Entering Saturday’s slate of Summit League matches, the Golden Eagles are in third place, a half game behind IUPUI, and Omaha is currently in fifth place, just behind Eastern Illinois.

It will be a special afternoon for the Omaha program as the Mavericks will play their first match at the on-campus soccer facility, Caniglia Field.

Getting the start in net the last four matches, junior Isaac Sandoval has only allowed two goals in almost 500 minutes of action, while recording 18 saves. As a team, the ORU backline has only allowed 14 goals this season, tied for the least in the conference.

Offensive struggles have hurt the Mavericks this season as they are last in the conference in scoring offense with 10 goals. Junior midfielder Vance Rookwood leads the squad with three goals this season, followed by sophomore midfielder Emir Alihodzic with two goals.

ORU will have a quick turnaround as they look to avenge an early season loss on Monday when they host Central Arkansas. The Bears beat the Golden Eagles 1-0 in Conway, Ark., back on Sept. 6.
