TULSA, Okla.- It all started with a letter to News 9 in Oklahoma City. A 10-year-old boy wrote to Kelly Ogle and Amanda Taylor, desperate for help to allow him to be a blessing to his older brother. It continues now, as the Oral Roberts University track and field teams will provide running shoes for the kid who is mature beyond his years.

You can read the full story from News 9 here, but in summary: Tobias Bass is determined to let his older brother enjoy the outdoors. Brother Titus has Cerebral Palsy and can’t walk, hear or eat food, and in the words of Tobias “cries when he sees kids playing outside and wants to go.”

So Tobias decided to push him in a jogging stroller for a 5k race. He didn’t write in asking for money, he didn’t write in asking for attention, he merely needed to borrow a jogging stroller and would repay them by pushing theirs or other disabled children in future 5k races.

Oklahoma Able Tech provided the stroller, and many others, including ORU Assistant Coach Shawna Dial, have stepped up to provide other support to the young boy. In fact, since the original story was posted on September 26, there are more than 1,200 comments on the page, many offering support of shoes, clothes, etc., like ORU, others just offering words of support for the boys.

“The News 9 story on Tobias and Titus touched my heart, and I really wanted to do something for them,” said Dial. “Sending shoes to them for training is just a small gift of encouragement. The ORU track and field team is pulling for their continued running success.”

In his letter, the future pastor Tobias says his own pastor, Craig Grochel of Life Church, says that “we have to be God’s hands and feet but I’m going to be his legs too.”

And he was. On September 27, Tobias completed his task, allowing his brother to feel like a “normal kid” for 3.1 miles.
