TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts University Head Track and Field Coach Joe Dial will be returning to the IAAF World Championships, this time to help coach three of his former student-athletes who are scheduled to compete in the nine-day event in Moscow beginning Saturday.

Of the Division I schools in Oklahoma, only OU (4) has more current or former athletes competing at the World Championships.

Included on the start lists from ORU are All-Americans Jack Whitt (USA) and Jeffery Gibson (Bahamas), both of whom recently finished their senior seasons at ORU. Former Olympian Prince Mumba (Zambia) will also compete at the meet.

A seven-time All-American and 2012 NCAA Outdoor Champion, Whitt will start things off as he competes in the pole vault at 10:15 a.m. (1:15 a.m. Central) on Saturday, August 10.  Mumba will also compete on Saturday, taking to the track for the 800m at 11:20 a.m. (2:20 a.m. Central). Round one of the 400m hurdles will feature Gibson at 11:05 a.m. (2:05 a.m. Central) on Monday, August 12.

Gibson could also compete for the Bahamas 4 x 400m relay team, but the exact four on the team will be named later. The Bahamas won the gold medal in the event during the 2012 London Olympics.

Now on the sidelines, Dial understands what it takes to compete at the highest level, having earned the bronze medal at the 1989 World Championships in Budapest. Dial also set the world record in 1986 and held the American pole vault record from 1985-1994.
