ORU Sweeps Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year Awards
ELMHURST, Ill. - The Oral Roberts' men swept the 2011 Summit League Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year awards, as voted on by the league's head coaches. Marvin Bonde garnered the Track Athlete of the Year, while fellow teammate Jack Whitt captured the Field Athlete of the Year.
Bonde was named Track Athlete of the Year after winning two events at The Summit League Championship. He captured his fourth-consecutive 60 meter (6.76) title and his third 200 meter (21.59) title in four years. Bonde, an All-League selection, led the league in both events.
Whitt repeats as Field Athlete of the Year after defending his pole vault title at The Summit League Championships with a height of 17'1.75". The Norman, Okla., native went on to record a third-place finish in the men's pole vault at the NCAA Championships with a season-best height of 17'10.5", earning USTFCCA All-America first-team honors. Whitt's third-place finish is the best finish of any league indoor male track and field athlete since 2008 and became the third Summit League male athlete to earn indoor All-American honors in consecutive seasons. The two-time Athlete of the Week and All-League selection led the league and tied for the fifth-best height in the nation.
