ORU Announces the Signing of Five Track and Field Athletes for 2011-12

Tulsa, OK—The Oral Roberts University track and field team recently announced the signing of five athletes who will join the program for the 2011-12 season.

Tiffany Hagan, an incoming freshman from Cary, North Carolina will compete in both track and cross country for the Golden Eagles. As a prep, Hagan was a four year cross country and track letterwinner for Cary Christian High School and led her team to two cross country state titles, and a state runner-up in track. Carey earned two all-state nods in cross country and was an all-state selection in the 4x800 track relay.

Joining ORU from nearby Broken Arrow High School is Linhchi Lai. Lai will be competing in pole vault for the Golden Eagles. While at Broken Arrow HS, Lai earned three letters in cross country and four in track, while placing fifth in pole vault at the 2010 state championships. Lai was also named to the 2010 Oklahoma 6A All-State team.

A long distance runner from Schuylerville, New York, Samantha Watson will also be joining both the cross country and track field teams at ORU. While at Schuylerville HS, Watson was a three-time section II, class C champion and qualified for state four years in a row. She was also a two year 2000m steeplechase champion, the Empire State Games steeplechase champion and is a record holder in the 1000m, 3000m, 4x8 relay and 2000m steeplechase.

Tyler Banks joins ORU this fall as both a track and field and cross country athlete. A prep at Oak Grove High School in Oak Grove, Missouri, Banks was conference champion in the 400m, state champ in the 800m, an AAU national qualifier and 2010 Athlete of the Year. Banks also competed in football and basketball at Oak Grove.

Rounding out the list of spring signings is Charandura Njasha. A native of Chiredli, Zimbabwe, Njasha was a two-time sportsman of the year at Gerima High School. Njasha is also the record holder in both the 100m (10.34s) and 200m (20.83s) at the University of Zimbabwe.
