Pirelli, Lewandowski Pace ORU in First Day of Summit Championships

Pirelli grabbed first place in the women’s shot put, earning 677 points with a throw of 12.24m. The second-best score was Cheyenne Thatcher of Southern Utah, who finished with a toss of 10.65m.
Pirelli also nabbed second in the women’s javelin throw with a 40.95m, falling just shy of first place Kimoya Hariott (UMKC) who logged a finals-best 43.92m.
The strong finishes just kept coming for Pirelli, who then earned fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (15.25) and fifth in the high jump (1.50m).
Lauren McFarland placed third in pole vault with a jump of 3.80m and Sheilah Ndasym notched a strong showing of her own for the women, placing fifth in the 1000 meter run with a 38:00.84.
On the men’s side of competition, Seth Lewandowski erupted for the top finish in shot put with a toss of 12.56m. Second place in the event belonged to Southern Utah’s Brent Springall, who scored a 12.52m.
Lewandowski also snagged seventh in the 100m dash decathlon (12.06), sixth in the 400m run (58.95), sixth in the high jump (1.63m) and sixth in the long jump (5.81m).
Shadrack Koech placed fourth for ORU in the 10000 meter run with a time of 32:57.33.
ORU resumes competition on Friday.
