AUSTIN, Texas-The Oral Roberts track and field teams will send four athletes to the 2012 NCAA Championships after the Golden Eagles posted season and school-bests this past weekend at the NCAA Preliminary Rounds, hosted by the University of Texas.

Clive Chafausipo wasted no time staking his claim to the leaderboard in the long jump, posting a school record 8.06m (26-5.5) mark on his first attempt of the day. After getting out 7.75m on his second attempt, Chafausipo passed on his third jump, and all three attempts in the finals to finish second overall after entering the meet ranked 18th in the region. His mark shattered Wayne Davis' record for 1996 of 7.86m (25-9.5).

Camila Pirelli took a similar approach in the women's javelin, launching an incredible 48.75m (159-11) on her first attempt, which put her in the finals and easily qualified for the finals. Although she didn't pass her attempts like Chafausipo, she was not able to best that mark and finished ninth overall with the school record throw. Her mark broke Rachel Talbert's mark from 2006 of 46.96m (154-1).

In the 400m hurdles, Jeffery Gibson ran 51.63 to finish second in his heat and earned an automatic qualification into the semi finals, where his time of 51.22 earned him a spot in the finals.

Jack Whitt tied the highest height in the pole vault, one of five to clear 5.40m (17-8.5). He finished second due to misses on his first two heights, but cleared the top height on his first attempt.

Entering with the 60th best time in the region, Brandon Williams also improved and made the semifinals, doing so with a season-best 47.03 second time in the 400m dash. Despite improving to 46.70 in the race, Williams finished 16th and just missed the finals.

In the 3,000m steeplechase, Kristen Radcliff finished in 10:32.43, just off her own school record, and finished 18th overall in the event, narrowly missing advancing.

Rounding out the action in the preliminary rounds, the 4x400m relay team of John Bradford, Williams, Michael Roberts and Gibson combined to run 3:09.57, a season-best, but finished 15th overall at the meet.

The final rounds of the NCAA Championships will begin on Wednesday, June 6 in Des Moines, Iowa.
