TULSA, Okla.-ORU graduate Shawn Venable has been added to the ORU Track and Field coaching staff after five years at Bacone College, it was announced by Head Coach Joe Dial.

As Dial's athletes have done at ORU, Venable's athletes at Bacone rewrote the record books, bringing the program to national prominence.

During Venable's tenure, Bacone won two Red River Conference Titles (2009 and 2012), and finished as the RRAC runners-up twice. The program produced 17 NAIA All-Americans, three NAIA Academic All-Americans, 65 NAIA national qualifiers, 15 RRAC Individual Champions, 103 RRAC All-Conference and 47 RRAC Academic All-Conference honors. Additionally, Venable twice received the Red-River Conference Men's Coach of the Year Award (2009 and 2012).

Last season alone, the Warriors earned eleven NAIA All-Americans and two NAIA Academic All-American honors and were nothing short of dominate on the conference level. At the men's Red-River Conference Championship the men's team broke the conference record for most points scored at the conference meet (222-previously 183) and greatest margin of victory (116- previously 79). Bacone College scored more points than the second and third place finishers combined (Northwood 106, Langston 97). Venable's team crowned seven RRAC Individual Champions, 29 RRAC All-Conference honors and 15 RRAC Academic All-Conference honors.

Venable received his graduate degree and undergraduate degree at Oral Roberts University in 2009 and 2005 respectively.  While working on his Master's Degree in Judaic-Christian Studies Venable assisted with the Monte Casino track & field team during the 2005-06 season.

At ORU, Venable ran middle and long distance before an injury made him decide to take up pole vault and the decathlon, helping ORU win four conference championships while donning the Blue and Gold.

In addition to being the team captain during his senior year, he was also a Mid-Continent All-Conference selection.

Venable is an Owasso, Okla., native, playing football and basketball, while qualifying for the state championships in cross country, swimming and track and field.

Venable is a USATF Certified Instructor and has received his USATF Level Two Coaching Certification in the Jumps and the Throws. He is also a USTFCCCA Academy Specialist in the Sprint, Hurdle and Relay Events and a participating member of the "Emerging Elite" Coaches Program at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.  Additionally, Venable has attended track & field conference, camps and seminars in Rhode Island, Nevada, California, Indiana, Texas and Oklahoma. He is also currently working on a second graduate degree from East Central University in Education with an emphasis in Sports Administration.

In addition to academics and athletics, Coach Venable enjoys reading and traveling. He has studied in and/or traveled to numerous countries including Argentina, Belgium, Belize, Canada, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Mexico, and South Korea.

Venable and his wife, Ashley, have two sons, Keegan and Kolton.
