TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts track and field program has announced the addition of three student-athletes who have signed a national letter of intent to compete for the Golden Eagles. Omega Reese, Asher Roberts and Sonwabiso Skhosana will begin their collegiate careers in Tulsa next season after signing with ORU on Wednesday.

Reese, who will graduate from Tonkawa HS, has won 10 state titles in track and another one in cross country. She won the 800m at the Oklahoma Meet of Champions as a sophomore and was the runner-up in the event as a junior. Reese is also a member of the THS basketball team and earned All-State honorable mention honors as a junior.

“We are excited to have Omega join our track family,” said Assistant Coach Evan Blackburn. “I really like her overall athleticism and competitiveness, which shows in her running. She will be a great 800m runner for us and will be a contributor on our 4x400m relay team.”

A Lima, Ohio, native, Roberts has won a conference and district championship, and was a state finalist in the 400m dash, setting a school record at 56.2 seconds. She was also a national finalist, taking fifth overall in the 800m on the AAU circuit, where she was a two time All-American. She has been named the Most Valuable Sprinter each year, and earned all-state honors each year at Shawnee High School. Roberts is also a member of the soccer program, and will study education at ORU in hopes of becoming a teacher and school administrator, eventually going into the ministry.

“Asher will fit in extremely well in our program, and will be able to contribute at multiple distances,” said Head Coach Joe Dial. “She is the epitome of a Whole Person, and will succeed at ORU on and off the track.

On the men’s side, Sonwabiso Skhosana will come to ORU from Durban, South Africa, where he was the 400m Junior National Champion with a career best 46.76 second time. Skhosana also competed in rugby and soccer at Glenwood High School, and will graduate in the top 20 percent of his class. He holds the provincial under 17 400m record, as well as the GHS records in the 200m (21.49) and 400m records.

“We are very excited about Sonwabiso’s future at ORU,” said Dial. “He has had tremendous success in South Africa, and we believe will come in and be able to make an immediate impact for us.”
