PRIMM, Nevada-A season-best round of 285, followed by a 287 in the second round put the Oral Roberts men's golf team in fourth place after day one of the 2012 Summit League Championship at the Primm Valley Desert Course. All five Golden Eagles are currently in the top-30 individually as well.

Thanks in large part to his season-best 69 in the first round, Scott Newell led the Golden Eagles with a 140 (69-71, -2), tying him for third overall. Only twice this year has an ORU golfer finished a tournament under par, with David Holtgrewe and Shannon Allen doing so.

Jake Spencer's 71-74 gave him a 145 (+3) for the first day, tying him for 18th overall and putting him second on the squad. Right behind him was Allen, who shot 72-74 to finish the day at 146 (+4) in a tie for 22nd overall.

Bryan Boaz shot a 73-75, while Holtgrewe recovered from a first-round 80 to shoot 68 in the second round, the lowest round of the day by a Golden Eagle. The pair posted identical 148's (+6) on the day and are in a eight-way tie for 29th going into the third and final round.

The final round will be contested Tuesday starting at 7:30 a.m. Live results for the championship can be found at: http://www.golfstatresults.com//public/leaderboards/team/static/team2873.html
