NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. - Led by Shannon Allen's first-round 69, the ORU men's golf team shot 303 in the first round and an even 300 in the second, finishing day one of the Fairway Club Invitational at ArborLinks in third place with a combined score of 603. The Golden Eagles enter the third and final round five shots back of Nebraska (598) and one shot clear of Missouri State and Illinois State (604), who tied for fourth.
Allen's 69 in the first round was the lowest score of the round and ended day one as the second lowest round of the day after Aaron Wong of Nebraska shot a 68 in the second round to grab the individual lead. Allen shot an even-par 72 in the second round, finishing the day at 141 in second.
Scott Newell is second on the team for ORU and tied for eighth overall after shooting 76-72 for a 148. Jake Spencer (78-76-154) is tied for 24th and Spencer Sheets (81-80-161) tied for 57th on the first day, while Trevor McInroe's 80-83 (163) put him in 65th overall.
The Golden Eagles will try to take home the championship during the final round, which will be a shotgun start at 8:30 Tuesday morning.
