KANSAS CITY, Mo.-A 300 in round one and a 296 in round two gave the ORU men's golf team a day one total of 596 (+20) as the finished the day seventh overall after two rounds of the Bill Ross Intercollegiate, hosted by UMKC.
With four birdies and just three bogeys in his second round, Trevor McInroe jumped up seven shots from his first round and finished the day with a 149, tying him for 18th overall. The round was just the second time this year that a Golden Eagle golfer has gotten under par with David Holtgrewe doing it last tournament.
Shannon Allen also finished with a 149 after improving to shoot a 73 in the second round, while Scott Newell's 74 put him in a tie for 31st overall with a 151. Jake Spencer finished round two with a 78, which gave him a 152 for the day, just behind Newell in a tie for 35th.
After a fairly even-keel round one, which included two bogeys and one birdie, things did not go as smoothly for Holtgrewe in round two as he double bogeyed the first hole and finished the first nine at +6. He would finish the round with an 80, his highest score of the season. The two-round total of 153 put him in a tie for 39th overall.
