HOT SPRINGS, Ark.-The Oral Roberts men's golf team was the only team to break 300 on Tuesday in the final round of the UALR/First Tee Classic, carding a 298 to move up to third place in the team standings. It is the second tournament in a row in which ORU has finished third.
Southeastern Louisiana claimed the team title at 887, while ORU finished with 904 (302-304-298) after the outstanding final round. David Holtgrewe used a consistent tournament to lead the way with an even-par 72 in the final round to tie for eighth overall with a 223 (77-74-72, +7). Holtgrewe led the field with 39 pars for the tournament, helping the Golden Eagles to an overall lead as a team in the same category with 171 pars. ORU also excelled on the par 5 holes, playing them to an even par mark for the tournament, the fifth-best average.
Jake Spencer finished with a 76 in the final round and a 225 overall (73-76-76, +9), second on the team and tied for 15th in the tournament.
Scott Newell's 78 put him at 230 (75-77-78, +14) for the tournament, tying him for 36th, while Bryan Boaz (81-77-75, +17) and Trevor McInroe (77-81-75, +17) continued to match each other's play, each shooting a tournament-best 75 in the final round. The duo tied at 233 for the tournament in a tie for 45th place.
The Golden Eagles will return to Arkansas next weekend to compete in the Arkansas State Red Wolves Intercollegiate on April 2-3 at Ridge Pointe Country Club.
