Zierleyn took down Caison Best, 6-1, 6-3, at the No. 1 singles spot for ORU’s only victory of the day.
The Black Knights (1-1) started the day by sweeping all three doubles matches. Rashad Shelton and Austin McCasin won the top court, 8-7 (8-6) over Jason Mechali and Pedro Moreno to set the tone.
Harrison McCormick and Caison Best followed with an 8-5 win over Zierleyn and Nathaniel Avery on the second court, and Army finished the doubles sweep on court three as Henry Jang-Milsten and Peter Sienko knocked off Parker Allen and Braxton Bates, 8-2.
Following Zierleyn’s victory on the featured singles court, Army won the final five singles matches in close contests. Sienko knocked off Mechali on the second court, 6-2, 6-3, and Shelton beat Moreno on court three, 6-2, 6-2.
McCasin extended the lead in the fourth flight with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Allen and McCormick outmatched Avery in the fifth flight, 6-2, 6-2.
The final victory came on court six, where Benjamin Davies took down Bates, 6-2, 6-3.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, February 10, when they host TCU. Match time is set for 4:30 pm CT.
