Liberty Sweeps Oral Roberts, 7-0

Nathaniel Avery and ORU fell on Monday to Liberty
TULSA, Okla. - Oral Roberts University was swept by Liberty University in men’s tennis action, 7-0, Monday morning at the Case Tennis Complex. The loss drops ORU to 1-7 this season.

The Golden Eagles were competitive at both completed doubles matches before suffering two losses. Alvaro Gutierrez and Nathaniel Avery lost on the top court to Siim Tuus and Giancarlo Lemmi, 9-7, while Parker Allen and Oscar Witzand were dropped by Tristan Stayt and Shea Thomas, 8-4.

In singles play, ORU had chances to win the top two flights before Liberty (4-3) prevailed. Gutierrez was edged by Tuus, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 on the opening court, and Allen won the first set before falling at the second court to Thomas, 4-6, 6-1, 10-7.

The final three completed courts were easy wins for the Flames. Lemmi won at No. 3 over Witzand, 6-0, 6-0, Wayne Harrell beat Avery on the fourth court, 6-1, 6-0, and Matt Slamencka beat Matthew Prevost in the fifth flight, 6-1, 6-0.

Liberty won the sixth court by default after ORU failed to produce a sixth player.

The Golden Eagles are back in action on Friday afternoon, when they open Summit League action at IUPUI. First serve in Indianapolis is scheduled for 11 am.
