Tulsa, OK—The nation’s 70th ranked Oklahoma State men’s tennis team posted a 6-1 victory over Oral Roberts Thursday afternoon at the University of Tulsa.
Igor Sobolta got the only win of the afternoon for ORU, and did it in impressive fashion, exploding for a 7-5, 7-5 victory over #94 Maniel Bains in #1 singles.
It was all downhill from there however, as Dmitry Suslov stumbled 1-6, 0-6 in #2 singles and Dario Beslic dropped a tough 1-6, 2-6 decisions to #108 Vlad Bondarenko in the #3 spot.
In #4 singles, ORU’s Matthew Tansil fell 2-6, 0-6 to Aleksey Bessonov.
Matthew Prevost (1-6, 0-6) and Elliot Butay (0-6, 0-6) also came up on the short end in #5 and #6 singles.
The Golden Eagles didn’t fare any better in doubles action, as Suslov and Beslic dropped a 1-8 contest in #1 doubles, and the team of
Tansil and Sobolta fell 7-8 in the #2 position.
Finally, the Oklahoma State duo of Tomas Patino and Ilija Martinoski outgunned ORU’s Butay and Prevost 8-0 in #3 doubles.
With the loss, ORU falls to 1-5 on the year and is back in action on March 20, as they open conference action against South Dakota State in Kansas City, Missouri at 9:00 a.m.
