Kansas City, MO—The Oral Roberts men’s tennis team opened up conference play with a 4-3 win over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits Sunday morning in Kansas City, Missouri.
ORU, the defending Summit League champs, got things started off on the right foot, as Mikhail Trukshanin downed SDSU’s Justin Pyle 6-4, 6-4 in #1 singles.
SDSU had the upper hand in #3 singles, as Carl Lundberg downed Dmitry Suslov 6-4, 6-1. The Jackrabbits also found wins in #5 action, as Chris Baron upended Matthew Prevost 6-2, 6-1. Dominic Rossetto won via a walkover for SDSU in #6 singles.
Doubles competition belonged to ORU however, as the team of Suslov and Beslic posted an 8-3 win at #1, while Trukshanin and Sobolta survived a 9-8 nailbiter in the #2 position.
The SDSU tandem of Thorp and Lundberg snagged a walkover win at #3 doubles.
With the win, ORU moves to 2-5 on the year and 1-0 in Summit competition. The Golden Eagles take the court once again on March 23, when they travel to Fayetteville to take on the University of Arkansas at 11:00 a.m.
