Kansas City, MO—The Oral Roberts men’s tennis team dropped the first match of the final weekend of regular season play, falling 4-2 to host UMKC in the Summit Cluster at the Carriage Club.
The Golden Eagles got off on the wrong foot in #1 singles, as Nino Hasandedic dropped Mikhail Trukshanin to only his second conference loss of the year with a 6-1, 6-3 decision. The defending Summit League player of the week now stands at 4-6 overall and 3-2 in conference.
Igor Sobolta moved his Summit tally to a perfect 5-0, by pulling out a hotly contested 6-4, 6-3 win over Grant Fleming in #2 singles.
Wrapping up the list of afternoon winners for ORU was Dario Beslic, who topped Abdulrahman Alawadhi 7-6, 6-3 at the #4 slot.
No doubles contests were played on Friday.
With the setback, ORU drops to 4-8 on the year and 3-2 in Summit action. Despite the loss, the Golden Eagles have wrapped up the fourth seed in the Summit postseason which begins on Friday, April 22.
ORU puts the finishing touches on the regular season tomorrow morning, when they face Western Illinois at 10:00 a.m.
