Menís Tennis Escapes Western Illinois in Regular Season Finale

Kansas City, MO—The ORU men’s tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a gritty 4-3 win over Western Illinois in the regular season finale this past Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles earned a hotly contested doubles point, as the team of Mikhail Trukshanin and Igor Sobolta held on for a 9-8, (7-5) win in the #1 slot. #2 doubles belonged to Dmitry Suslov and Dario Beslic, who outgunned the Leathernecks 8-5.

The lone Western Illinois doubles victory came when Alenjandro Buceta and Ben Yue nabbed an 8-2 win over Matthew Tansil and Matthew Prevost.

Trukshanin earned the #1 singles point in a three-set (1-6, 6-3, 6-0) win over Jeff Cote.

Sobolta (6-0, 7-5) and Beslic (6-0, 3-6, 6-2) also earned singles points at the #2 and #4 spots, as the Golden Eagles held on for the 4-3 victory.

With the win, ORU wraps up the regular season with a 5-8 overall record and a 4-2 mark in Summit League play.

ORU has wrapped-up the #4 seed in the Summit Championships and will compete against #1 UMKC on Friday at 9:00 a.m. in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
