Fort Wayne, Ind.—The Oral Roberts men’s tennis season came to an end Friday morning, as the #4 seeded Golden Eagles dropped a 4-0 decision to #1 UMKC in the first round of the Summit Championships hosted by IPFW.
Igor Sobolta suffered his only conference loss of the year, falling 6-3, 7-5 to Grant Fleming in #2 singles. Sobolta rounds out the conference slate with a 6-1 record and finished the year 8-4 overall.
In #1 singles, Mikhail Trukshanin stumbled to a 6-2, 6-1 loss, finishing the year with a 4-3 Summit League mark.
Matthew Prevost found himself on the wrong end of a 6-0, 6-0 setback at #6 singles, while the matches of Dmitry Suslov, Dario Beslic and Matthew Tansil went unfinished.
Doubles competition also belonged to UMKC, as Trukshanin and Sobolta fell 8-5 to the Kangaroo duo of Nino Hasandedic and Fleming in the #1 spot.
ORU put up the toughest fight at #2 doubles, as Suslov and Beslic battled to a tough 9-8 (8-6) loss to UMKC’s Gustavo Guerin and Cameron Schoenhofer.
Tansil and Prevost were dismissed 8-0 at #3 doubles.
The ORU men end the tennis season with a 5-9 overall mark and a 4-3 record in the Summit League.
