Razorbacks Win Pair over ORU
MATCH 1 – Arkansas 6, Oral Roberts 0
The Razorbacks got off to a great start by winning a pair of doubles matches. Taj Harrison and Michael Nott took down ORU’s Parker Allen and Alvaro Gutierrez, 8-3, and Jovan Parlic teamed with Victor Hoang to win by the same margin over Nathaniel Avery and Oscar Witzand.
The closest match of the singles event was in the top flight, where Nikolas Zogaj topped Gutierrez, 6-3, 7-6 (8-2). The second flight went to Gregorie Lehmann over Allen, 6-1, 6-0, and Harrison scored a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Witzand in the third flight.
Arkansas won the fourth and fifth flights by 6-0, 6-0 counts. Hoang defeated Avery in the fourth spot, and Nott won the No. 5 position over Matthew Prevost.
MATCH 2 – Arkansas 5, Oral Roberts 0
ORU and the Razorbacks skipped straight to singles for their second battle, with the home side winning all five completed matches.
Parlic knocked off Gutierrez in the top flight, 6-2, 6-1, and Matt Walters won the No. 2 spot over Allen, 6-0, 6-1.
In the third flight, Hoang took down Witzand, 6-1, 6-1, while Hall Fess beat Avery in the fourth spot, 6-0, 6-0.
Harrison won the fifth court, a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Prevost, and the sixth court match was abandoned.
With the victory clinched in favor of Arkansas, ORU and Arkansas did not play the doubles portion of the event.
ORU next takes the court on Friday, Feb. 3, when they take on Nicholls State.
