ORU Swept by Nicholls State

THIBODAUX, La. - Oral Roberts University fell to 0-3 on the young season Friday afternoon after losing to Nicholls State University, 7-0, at the Colonel Tennis Complex.

Nicholls won the doubles points after taking two matches. Damjan Despotovski and Palash Tiwari knocked off ORU’s Parker Allen and Alvaro Gutierrez in the No. 1 match, 8-4, while Golden Eagles Nathaniel Avery and Oscar Witzand were swept by Sidharth Sivakumar and Roy Knight, 8-0.

In singles, Despotovski dropped Gutierrez in the top flight, 6-4, 6-1, in the closest match of the day. Vaezzadeh took down Allen at No. 2, 7-5, 6-0, and Knight beat Witzand at the fifth spot, 6-2, 6-1.

In No. 4 singles, Tiwari beat Avery, 6-0, 6-0, and Guillermo Colado overcame Matthew Prevost in the fifth flight, 6-0, 6-3.

Nicholls (1-1) won the sixth and final flight via default.

Oral Roberts returns to the courts on Saturday, Feb. 11, when they face Stetson University in a neutral site match in Fayetteville, Ark.
