ORU Falls to Wichita State, 7-0

TULSA, Okla. - Oral Roberts University fell to Wichita State University, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Genesis Health Club in men’s tennis action. ORU is now 1-6 on the season.

Wichita State (5-3) opened the match with three doubles wins, one by default. David Cavalcanti and Matheus Pereira, the 31st-ranked duo in the nation, defeated ORU’s Alvaro Gutierrez and Oscar Witzand on the top court, 8-4, and Tomislav Gregurovic and Guillermo Nicol took the second court over Parker Allen and Nathaniel Avery, 8-1.

Several singles matches were close, but WSU won them all. Cavalcanti scored the victory over Gutierrez in a hard-fought first court match, 6-3, 6-4, and Gregurovic won the second flight over Allen, 6-2, 6-4.

Nicol dropped Witzand at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0, and Juan Estenssoro beat Avery on the fourth court, 6-1, 6-2.

On the fifth court, Kester Black swept Matthew Prevost, 6-0, 6-0. The Shockers won the sixth court by default.

ORU has a quick turnaround before their next competitive match. The Golden Eagles will host Liberty on Monday morning at 10 am.
