The Mastodons took charge of the match with victories at both doubles courts. Roberto Cabrini and Connor Andrews took the top flight match, 8-5, over ORU’s Alvaro Gutierrez and Nathaniel Avery. Joao Freitas and Daniel Kang clinched the doubles point for IPFW with an 8-3 win over Parker Allen and Pedro Moreno.
Andres Cobos started the singles section of the match in IPFW’s favor with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Moreno at the No. 3 spot. Andrews polished off Avery at No. 4, 6-2, 6-1, and Freitas swept Matthew Prevost, 6-0, 6-0, on the fifth court.
With the match clinched in IPFW’s favor, ORU retired from the top two singles courts. IPFW also claimed the point at No. 6 when ORU was unable to produce a sixth player.
The Golden Eagles will continue their season on Friday, April 20 when they face UMKC.
