Golden Eagles Lose Close One to UALR, 4-3
Leading the way for the Golden Eagles were Melanie Marlin and Marizanne Bouwer, each of whom won in both singles and doubles play on Saturday.
ORU won the doubles point after taking the first two courts. Marlin teamed with Tori Dollar to win at the top spot, 8-4, over Yana Kakovkina and Viktoriya Plyuta. At the same time, Bouwer teamed with Rachel Scroggs to win on court two, 8-6, over Dane’ Vorster and Christel Amsallem.
The Trojans (1-0) took the final doubles court, with Veronique Luksich and Kamilla Galieva topping Natalia Dollar and Brittany Smith, 8-0.
UALR reclaimed momentum in singles play, starting with a victory on the top court. Luksich knocked off Tori Dollar, 6-2, 6-2, though ORU won the second court as Marlin beat Plyuta, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The visitors came back to win on the third court, with Kakovkina taking down Scroggs, 6-1, 6-2, through ORU claimed victory on the fourth court with Bouwer taking a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 decision over Amsallem.
The match was decided on the final two courts, with UALR winning both. Vorster won the fifth flight, 6-1, 6-0, over Smith, and Galieva won the sixth flight over Natalia Dollar, 6-0, 6-0.
ORU will finish their opening week of action on Sunday night, when they face the University of Tulsa. First serve is scheduled for 5 pm CT.
